Types of Computer – not different makes of computer
1. Mainframes
These are large computers that are mainly used to run networks and batch process data. They tend to be the central server and have other workstations or peripherals attached to them.

2. Mini Computers
A minicomputer is a type of computer that possesses most of the features and capabilities of a large computer but is smaller in physical size.

3. PCs
A personal computer (PC) is a small, relatively inexpensive computer designed for an individual user. In price, personal computers range anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. All are based on the microprocessor technology that enables manufacturers to put an entire CPU on one chip.

4. Laptops
This is like a PC but they are smaller and portable normally with a rechargeable battery.

5. Tablet
Slim and lightweight, tablets are a new type of internet-enabled computer that work in a similar way to smartphones, with touchscreens and downloadable apps.
They first became mass-market products in 2010 with the launch of the very first Apple iPad.

6. Smart Phone
A mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, Internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps

7. PDAs – Personal Digital Assistant
A palmtop computer that functions as a personal organizer but also provides email and Internet access.

8. Game Controller/Console
A video game console is a specialized computer system designed for interactive video gameplay and display. A video game console functions like a PC and is built with the same essential components, including a central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU) and random access memory (RAM). To offset costs, most video game console manufacturers use older CPU versions.

9. Control Systems – factory, fridges, washing machine, car management
These are computers that are designed to regulate other computers or variables such as temperature in a fridge or the amount of spins on a washing machine or when a gear change occurs on an automatic car.
